I’ve been blogging about museums for about three years now and never have I felt more powerful and inspired by the power of being online. As an example, the #museumblast challenge we just had on Instagram was fantastic! So many people joined.
Considering how difficult can be to start out online these days, mostly due to the overwhelming amount of people on the Internet, I’m blessed to feel the love. Over the past months more and more people have reached out to me online and, yes, I feel lucky to have found some of my best friends on Instagram.
Most of the times I get asked about my work online. “What is your work about?” or “How do you shape people’s lives through Instagram?” and “What is it that you do, really?” are only some of the questions.
My work online has changed throughout time. I started my presence online from zero just about three years ago and I did it because I wanted to practice writing and see more museums and do it all for other people more than for myself.
A few days ago I read an article on MuseumNext that mentioned how more and more people go to museums according to how much of it they can share on the gram. Quoting the article:
For an increasing percentage of the population there is a very modern driving force behind the visit and that force is Instagram. (…) Many people will choose where to visit specifically because they can share the experience on social media.
Really? Really.
So yes, I’m not saying I go to museums exclusively to show them off on the gram, but I must say some places here in Rome make the whole sharing thing easier than others. And I do have to pick the ones that look and sound more interesting on the gram, that is: in photo and captions. That’s what part of my work is about.
Anyways, although relatively small, my Instagram and even the blog give me the chance to express myself and my feelings about the world around me, including my artsy travels, my life in Rome and anything in-between. That’s what it’s also about and that’s why I do what I do for the most part.
I must be honest: my life is also about a few other things, including procrastination and positivity. But my life is also about weakness and worry…
So how do I make sure “flowers come out of the mud”? I simply don’t…
Through the #imamusaller movement I make sure people see that the world is good and that it needs good people. Sensitive people. People who crave equity and sincerity. According to Global Fund for Women,
“A movement is a group of people with a shared purpose who create change together.”
Movements do change things and we should create more movements, be them museum movements, science movements or travel movements. Movements are wonderful. We are cool just as long as we move and as long as we keep moving.
And that’s what my work as a blogger is about, although I’m teeny-tiny.

Friday Heirloom 112: Positivamente Social (Il Mio Lavoro da Blogger – Essere Minuscoli)
Scrivo “musealmente” da quasi tre anni ormai e non mi sono mai sentita più forte ed ispirata dal potere di essere online. Ad esempio, la #museumblast challenge che abbiamo appena terminato su Instagram è stata fantastica! Così tante persone si sono unite sotto questo hashtag.
Considerando quanto sia difficile “iniziare” online al giorno d’oggi, principalmente a causa della stragrande quantità di persone su Internet, sono davvero felice di questo amore. Negli ultimi mesi sono stata contattata da un sempre più grande numero di persone e, sì, mi sento fortunata ad aver trovato alcuni dei miei migliori amici su Instagram.
La maggior parte delle volte mi vengono poste domande sul mio lavoro online. “Di cosa tratta il tuo lavoro?” o “Come cambi la vita delle persone attraverso Instagram?” e “Cos’è che fai in realtà?” sono solo alcune di tali domande.
Il mio lavoro online è cambiato nel tempo. Ho iniziato la mia presenza online da zero circa tre anni fa e l’ho fatto perché volevo esercitarmi nella scrittura e vedere più musei e fare tutto ciò avendo come obiettivo gli altri piuttosto che me stessa.
Qualche giorno fa ho letto un articolo su MuseumNext che menzionava come sempre più persone vanno ai musei in base a quanto possono condividere sul ‘gram. Citando l’articolo:
Per una percentuale crescente della popolazione c’è una forza motrice molto moderna dietro una visita e quella forza è Instagram. (…) Molte persone scelgono cosa visitare specificamente in base al fatto che possono condividere l’esperienza sui social media.
Davvero? Davvero. Quindi sì, non sto dicendo che vado ai musei esclusivamente per mostrarli sul ‘gram, ma devo dire che alcuni posti qui a Roma rendono la condivisione più facile di altri. E devo scegliere quelli che riesco a far sembrare più accattivanti in base a foto e didascalie. Ciò fa parte del mio lavoro.
Comunque, anche se relativamente piccolo, il mio Instagram e persino il blog mi permettono di esprimere me stessa e i miei pensieri sul mondo che mi circonda, compresi i miei viaggi artistici, la mia vita a Roma e qualsiasi altra cosa fra di essi. Ecco cosa riguarda il mio lavoro ed è per questo che faccio quel che faccio per la maggior parte.
Devo essere sincera: la mia vita riguarda anche alcune altre cose, fra cui la procrastinazione e la positività. Ma la mia vita è anche debolezza e preoccupazioni…
Quindi, come posso assicurarmi che “dal fango spuntino i fiori”? Semplicemente non lo faccio…
Attraverso il movimento #imamusaller mi assicuro che la gente veda che il mondo è buono e che ha bisogno di persone buone. Di persone sensibili. Di persone che bramano equità e sincerità. Secondo il Global Fund for Women,
“Un movimento è un gruppo di persone che hanno uno scopo condiviso e che spingono, insieme, verso il cambiamento”.
I movimenti cambiano le cose e dovremmo creare più movimenti, siano essi movimenti museali, movimenti scientifici o movimenti di viaggio. I movimenti sono meravigliosi. Siamo cool finché ci muoviamo e finché continuiamo a muoverci.
Ed è questo il mio lavoro come blogger, anche se sono minuscola.
